Pre-season starts tonight.

A new era at the club starts tonight, when Tommy Lawson, arguably the greatest manager the club has ever had takes the reins again after a seven-year absence.

Joining him in the dugout will be two former Skem players, Andy Gray as assistant manager, and Andy Barlow as head coach.

In what has been described as a complete overhaul, the management team has brought together a squad of largely local young players, with a hint of experience thrown in.

Tommy Lawson was keen to explain the task at hand.

“We have to be realistic as there’s no budget, so we can’t afford to bring players down to our level, we’ll have to bring them up.

“So we are bringing in young players with the ability and talent. The three of us will harness what we’ve got and turn them into better players. Our track record is proven in that department.

“It calls for patience, particularly from the supporters as we embark on this new journey, but it’s also an exciting time for the club.”

Skelmersdale United face the Steven Gerrard Academy at the Community Stadium tonight. KO is 7:45 pm.
